PHI 103 Week 1 Assignment Is the ‘Cry It Out’ Method Safe for Babies? (2018)
Introduction
Many parents claim one of the hardest aspects of being a parent is getting your child to sleep through the night so that they can get adequate rest. There are many different methods parents may try in order to achieve the same results. One such method developed by Dr. Richard Ferber has been labeled as the “cry it out” method, in which parents allow the infant to self-soothe for a certain amount of time before providing external comfort (Ferber, 2013). This paper will weigh out the pros and cons associated with parents using this method to achieve a bedtime routine with their infant. The main point we will address is whether or not the “cry it out” method is safe for infants.
